Pellionia daveauana

Pellionia daveauana

Pellionia daveauana - one of my favourite vivarium plants. Also called the "rainbow vine" or "trailing watermelon begonia", Pellionia daveauana is a member of the Family Urticaceae. It originates in Vietnam and Malaysia but is widely grown as a houseplant. In the vivarium, it is an attractive and useful climbing/training plant which grows well in low light conditions but is not so vigorous that it needs frequent pruning.

It's not often that a plant does something fast enough to warrant a video, but in this great sequence by Bill McNulty, you can watch it doing interesting things with pollen!
